Tony the outside iron runs the right way that one has an inside lining of iron, something I have not seen before. There are three nissan huts on a neighbours property used for storage and workshop.

Right you are Robert!

I have spectacles, I must wear them more often.

Opened the photo of inside and took it to the outer skin too.

I'll ammend the posting.

They are grand looking structures aren't they. I tried to convince my wife that the barbecue area I had promised to build, should be a Nissen hut replica. No success with that as yet, just opposition.

Default Lived in one

Hi Guys

When my family immigrated to Australia from Holland in 1950. We arrived in Sydney by boat. We were herdewd onto a train and sent to an ex Army Camp in Bathurst, there we lived in Nissen Huts for six months. It was blo*dy freezing there during winter and I recall my mother complaining it was colder than in Holland in the snow.

Cheers

Tony

Welcome to Australia, Tony.

At least the bastards could have given you a wood heater in one end.

I take it that hut didn't have a double skin then?

Maybe the ebay one had 6" of insulation between the layers............but I don't think so.

Default Times have changed

Hi Tony

Thanks mate for the welcome. Bit blo*dy late..I been here so long I grew up here, went to school and served in the Army and they still call you a blo*dy New Australian. We did it the hard way paid our "full fare" over and they still put us in a camp, did we complain, no way. But don't start me on those free loaders who come on boats, bitch and complain, given luxury treatment and money. Give me the migrants from the 50's and 60's any day time.

Cheers

Tony

They certainly are Tony, and you definitely need your barbie under cover in Gympie lately! Here's some pics for inspiration, this hut looks very comfy with heater, carpet, couches.....your wife could go town with interior decorating! It's the RAF 249 Sqdn mess at Biferno, Italy. My father flew with them in 44/45, that's him in the last pic seated centre. Their Sqdn Ldr was an Aussie too, as was the previous Sqdn Ldr.

Drove past one of the nissen huts today .
I was told once that these few buildings formed part of a WW2 training strip but dont know if that is correct or not
A lot of Marsden matting used for sheep yards at the same site
Site is between Trangie and Nevertire
