I would say it is the thrust washer for the axle side gear as I installed one of the LOCK RITE lockers in mine and it had brass thrust washers behind the side gears that the axle goes into. I replaced mine with steel ones from Vintage Powerwagons as I heard there were problems when installing the lockers as there is extra strain on the thrust washers with the kit installed.
