Well, I've started pouring over the puddle jumper and am getting her ready for a Qld RWC today and hopefully full rego tomorrow.

Can any one tell me are there supposed to be pedal rubbers? Brake and clutch are bare metal and have stamped cross hatching and the Accelerator has two thin strips of rubber running down the middle. The manual that Mick left me looks like they have proper rubber pads? If so, where can I get a set?

Cheers
Pete

Default Early Chev CMPs had rubber later did not

Hi Peter

My experience with CMPs has been that early Chevy CMPs 1941 and 1942 had rubber peddle covers just line the prewar civilian. While the later 1945 Chev CMPs had cross hatch pattern cast into the brake and clutch peddle units.

Now to supposition, the change over could be for a number of reasons,
  1. the rubber shortage caused a simple change over not using rubber
  2. that the rubber pads tend to come off leaving a smooth surface
  3. that mud on your boots make for feet slipping off the rubber or smooth steel

I've experienced the last two problems myself with my `41 Pattern 12 and '42 Pattern 13. The only way to keep the rubber covers on the steel that I've found is to glue them on.

Change over from looking at parts books took place in 1944, can anybody nail it down better?

Cheers Phil

Thanks for the info Phil,

It appears I'm on a steep learning curve in relation to the Blitz!

I need some more help from my more learned restorers.

While the old girl passed RWC with the black out light in place I want to put in another standard headlight - where can I get one?

Also the original vaccumn wipers are somewhat tempremental and I have heard there is a 6v eltric motor that will fit as a replacement -I know it's a move away from original but it is a safety issue. Any one know where I can source those from.

Cheers

Pete

Default Head light bulb or bucket

Hi Peter

Both my Pattern 13 Cabs are set up with one regular 6 volt sealed beam head light and one of the later blackout light with the swing shutter so you can uncover the lower half of the light. Both of the blackouts have the separate bulb which I have replaced the originals with a halogen replacement bulb.

So to your question do you have the regular headlight bucket on both sides?

As to Windscreen Wipers, I've never bothered with trying to improve on the speed of the wipers on the Pattern 13 Cab. Just put RainX on both inside and outside of the glass and it works better than the wipers do even with enough vacuum to make them go back and forth.

Don't worry about the learning curve where do you think the guys who have been playing with CMPs for years get the information they have? Asking questions, that is one of the things that MLU is all about, sharing the collective knowledge.

Cheers Phil

Phil,

The black out light has a hood on it and a tiny slit lense - if you take the hood off, the glass falls out leaving a reflector & bulb.

I have been right over the vacumn lines on the wipers and cant make them work - The lines are in good condition with no obvious leaks, cracks or damage. I have not opened the actual wiper motors yet - that's for next days off. Some times when I turn the ignition off as the motor dies the wipers give a pathetic 1/4 wipe and stop!

Default Will try and find details on blackout lights

Hi Peter

I think I have some photos of all the different styles of CMP Pattern 13 head lights and black out lights I'll try and find them and post them. May be awhile though I'm having computer problems in that my software has decided to stop showing thumb nail photos.

Cheers and Seasons Greetings, Phil

Hi Again,

I have attached a couple of photos of the blackout light - I have also had another good look at the set up and it seems a simple enough task to remove this unit as a whole and replace it with another complete sealed beam - I just need to find one. Any ideas where in Aust I can source one from?

Oh, and Merry Christmas to every one. Stay safe and enjoy the festive season.

Cheers Pete
