That might be so in a lot of cases, but on older equipment there are often sizes and types no longer available, in the case of the Ford seal the sealing lip is offset and has been said it has a slinger which matches a cone in the hub. I am on a restoration at present where a good number of transmission seals will be made to pattern for me due to peculiarites in sizes. For interest, the Ford seal was used from late 1930's right through to the 70's and maybe later.
