Thanks for all the replies and information!
I guess the holes in the hood (bonnet) may have been made by some post-war owner, but what was the purpose of these two original counter-sunk holes in the front sheetmetal next to the holes in the hood?

Don't mean to bore y'all to death with a discussion on hood holes, but it beats the hell out of watching television!

As always, thank you guys for your imput. I couldn't have gotten this far without it!
