Unusual tool 1940 date What is it?

I have no idea as to the purpose, but trhe AM stamp, would that be " Air Ministry" ?????

King Dick was a stamped on a lot of tools, being the trade name of the manufacturer, but this was in a more innocent time. I have tools inherited from my father (Naval, CPO ERA).

He had told me that British issue tools compared to US made, were alot chunkier and in some cases harder to use as they were so thick and didn't fit in tight spaces.

I found a "King Dick" ratchet hidden in the belly of a ferret years back. As I recall it had the British NSN and the crowfoot cast right into it.

A search of the UK ebay will show thousands of this brand, so it must have been a very common one. As to the specific tool shown, I have no idea.

Maybe the "tool" makers, also made Jigs? It looks more like some kind of jig to me.

The makers were once known as Abingdon King Dick, I still use a pre-war adjustable so marked. Nothing rude about the name either, it was called after the company owner's prize Bulldog. The still make tools after 150 years of operations and can supply Whitworth spanners for those still working on the older vehicles.
