Good idea Colin. I need one. It is a quite rare piece and I think that apart from the two on mine, I have only seen them on about 3 other carriers. Where will we get the glass from? I have the remains of one set and it is made up of 3 (I think) seperate pieces instead of one. Regards Rick.

Its a peice of 5mm laminated glass (the riveted carriers are made of 4.5mm which is a bit harder to find these days)

One that I have is a 2 piece 5mm and 3mm. I don't know if they were all the same as I have found a lot of variations while doing these. Some are quite minor and others very surprising.
I had a reasonable day getting quite a bit done. The floor is in remarkable condition as with the rest of the steel work. They will be off to the grit blasters next week. Colin. |

Howdy! Just got 2 of the 3 carriers back from the blasters. I get the other one tomorrow, so its time for a bit of the old "Protec" red oxide primer. Now is the more rewarding stuff. Sorry if the pictures look boring!

Hi Colin - for my information, you use Protec red oxide primer whereas I us Protec Etch primer which is grey. Your thoughts on the differences please.

Hi all, Phil, I was more refering to the guys that are not into armour as much as we are.
![]() Bob, I don't think there is any difference for what we are doing except for the price and red covers blasted steel a lot better than the grey. I have been using red oxide for the last 25 years or so. Rick, I will be getting the glass done as well so I'll have a heap done for corowa and I am very lucky to have such great equipment. Good for lifting my expectations. ![]() Colin. |

I cant think of any new superlatives Colin to describe this thread and the work your doing.
I just glanced at the clock and noticed, I have been looking at this thread for over an hour. It is truly mesmerising... ![]() It is fantastic to think of all the history you're preserving.... Just one question....what the heck are your going to do with all these when they're finished?? Maybe invade Victoria and take it in a classic 'Pincer movement' ???

That's the difference. In that Hour Colin would have the hulls painted & knocked up a replica mount.
