Anyone able to point me in the right direction for websites with info on the Bedford QLD? After anything at all, but interested in tech details to start with.
I'm hopefully getting my hands on a '45 dated vehicle and just wanted to familiarise myself with them!

Hello Richard, hopefully will be getting my hands on it soon. its in overall good condition, but needs some tidying up. Firstly would be interested in anything i need to watch out for or check?

Colin,

If you are at Beltring, come over and see me. My QLD will be there. They are pretty straight forward, nothing really unusual or troublesome, providing they are serviced regularly.

Do you have a link to some photos of your Bedford QLD anywhere on this site - if not could you please put them up on this thread please?

I read it as Bedford Queensland as QLD is the abbreviation for the state in Australia that I live.

The photos............that is me loading the lorry, but it is not a Bedford QL, but a Ford copy, the WOT6. Colin, this Ford will be with my QLD at the show, so you should find me.

QLD......not Queensland

.......Q was a military designation for 4 wheel drive lorries. L is Bedford code for long wheelbase and D is their code for cargo body.

Thank you David for posting some photos up. Do you have any taken showing the front of the truck - yes some people are hard to please aren't they!

In Queensland any vehicle number plate starting with a "Q" means it is a Q-car or a state government vehicle.

Sorry Lionel, I don't have a picture from the front but will make sure that I take one when I see it again.
With Richard's truck and the Fraud parked next to each other I may even learn to tell the difference.

I know that QLR well, having accompanied its previous owner who restored it, to Holland on the Corridor Tour in 1994.

Thank you for posting up some front shots of the trucks. They certainly look like they were built to do business. Did they normally have just one headlight or has one been taken off - as the bracket is still there?

Hi Dave,

That is a shelf in front of drivers screen, it was painted with gas detection paint.

And Lionel, British MV's built during the war were only fitted with one headlamp.

My wagon is suppose to be 1945 dated, would anyone know if i could find out for sure and also if any way i could find its number?

I know it's not a QLD, but think it's a QLR. The reason I say this is that it was taken in India (1945), by my Dad, who was in the Royal Signals. Looks like a small generator to the left hand side, on the floor.

Cheers Ronald, i must try to get my hands on a copy of the 'Bedford to Berlin' book and although not mine i have borrowed a drivers book and maintenace manual from the place i work (RAF Museum Lonodn), they do make for some very interesting reading!
The only problem i have is that at some time post war a Bedford Diesel lump and air brakes have been fitted, not sure to keep them or try and convert back?
