There were a number of mods done to the trucks, starting almost from day one. But when the tire problem cropped up, that was the only thing dealt with.

While it may have varied on some bases, here in Shilo we had to cut the old rims with a torch so they would not be used again, and the results thrown into scrap. As to the tires, almost all of which were serviceable, and many brand new, they were sold on the regular scrap tire contract, for about $4 (or less) each. Although the LCMMs had dictated that they could be sold as serviceable tires, the local supply decreed that they would be treated the same as all tire salvage.

I made sure a good stack of the best ones went to the museum.
