Actually the driving ban was not implemented over the whole of the area as first broadcast. We were in Port en Bessin for the day of the 6th and vehicles were coming and going all day. Some of our contingent (MVT) convoyed to Pegasus early that morning and were told that they could not return until 2000 hrs, in fact some returned in the middle of the afternoon with only small detours, so they told me. The French police, gendarmes, etc. were very helpful in fact it was apparent that many were not from the area and were doing the tourist bit, several times I witnessed them looking at memorials, etc and taking snapshots!
