Alex and Malcom, I know about that fix, but I didn't know it was that bad until it was too late to drill the hole. I bandaged it straight away to keep working and left the bandaid on for an extra day. I have used the red hot tip of a paper clip as well. The blood cools the heat as soon as you get through the nail. Your right the relief is instantaneous.

Back on the job it only hurts when I bump it now.
