| Canadian army sigs acronyms

I have a document called "armoured & infantry divisional signal regiments" that probably dates from the late 1940s. A paragraph states "Sigs provides three main means of comms". They then refer to WRLS, LINE & SDS. WRLS I take is wireless, Line is telephony but what is SDS? Motorcycle?

SDS=Signals Dispatch Service via m/c, 1/4T or any other motorized means. SDS was set up at a Signal Office and operated over a scheduled route delivering/forwarding dispatches routed to various HQ. In the event of a Op Immed, or Flash message, an SDR (Special Dispatch Rider) could be used. DR service had a higher security integrity than either wrls or line. Bruce Parker...tut,tut...you shoulda knowed better!!!

SDRs operated above Artillery Regt/Inf Bn level. Well back, they would operate at Bde, Div, Corps, Army. I refer to true SDR/SDS, i.e. RCCS personnel. Other cbt arms pers had m/c operating within their sphere of influence, but while they might have been referred to as DRs, they really wuzn't! Velox Versutus Vigilans
