If Bovingtons did not get back to you, I am able to tell you your carrier was made by Ford Canada, she is in a batch of Universal carrier Mk1 of 1421 carriers made on contract number S/M1026 i cant date her for you though, but i have no doubt someone will.

hope this helps

Default UC found update

Hi everyone
You have waited a long time for news about the recovery. Here is a fresch update.
My friend with the BV 206 recovery weasel has sold it and now I have to find somebody else with a good recovery vehicule. The old farmer who lived at the remote farm is now deceased and one of the old tractors a Volvo BM 230 Victor has just recently been driven from there on the ice. It has been very cold up here and very little snow. Today it´s -39Celsius and the ice is about 30cm thick. This is good news and I´m now planing more seriously for a recovery in late February or beginning of March. A close by resident has promised me to pack the iceroad before the recovery with his snowmobile, this will help alot and make the iceroad a lot better and stronger.
Regards
Erik

Default Carrier Recovery

Have you given any thought about getting a TV documentary outfit interested in the story of your recovery? Military Channel, Discovery Channel etc.... When I was working as part of the Military Attache team in Berlin I was involved in facilitating a segment of the bomb disposal technigues used during the reconstruction of Berlin. Proved to be a very interesting experience.

Cheers

Default Recovery

Erik,

I wish you the best with the recovery. As another final piece of advice, please re-read Rob Love's suggestion in Aug. 2007.

Pull the axle shafts and do what you gotta do to free up the drums, if they are even stuck. As long as the track still turns, it won't take much to pull the carrier...it's rolling resistance is not that great. A quad would almost do the trick, although likely not on the ice. If need be, you could lighten it by pulling things like the engine, engine covers, fenders, and just about anything else that is unneccesary. They can be brought out by boat.
Skol...
