On the second pic, he's likely repainting the roof to cover the roundel so he can paint the star there too.

Dave, I am not sure if he is trying to cover the roundel; the man handling the door seems to be tracing the contour of the star, so I guess the stars were already there and they are just giving the truck a fresh-up (?)
