Any Habs fan can tell you that you are incorrect about the pronunciation of the letter "H". It is reported that the "CH" on the front of the Habs jersey stands for "Centre Hice"...

If you are familiar with the language of the out-ports of Newfoundland,you will find the same phenomena..the silent "H" sound ...comes from the old Irish pronunciation..French and Irish are not that far apart..My wife maiden name..Dalton....family came to Canada in 1845...from Ireland..originally was from Alton,now part of the city of Bordeaux... so "John from Alton"became John D'Alton..some time between 1066 and 1845.. Probably part of the Norman conquest invaders..cause they weren't working on any CMP's then and were bored... But very noticeable in the Irish fisherman's speech which Some Newfoundlanders are directly descended from.. I was living there just after confederation in 1949('53-57) and it was much more noticeable then than it is today.. Just a little history from an old fart.. ![]() ![]() ![]()
