Hello Andrew,
With the LR having a fishplate chassis it is no later than 1950.
As 51-52 models didnt have a fishplate chassis.
And yes you are right it should have headlights behind the grille.
but a later series 1 front has been fitted including the guards.
the guards it has on it were never fitted on the 80" by the factory.
