Armybuck041 -
Stumbled onto this thread while also looking for info on Canadian M151A2's. Immediately recognized a picture of one I had looked at for sale in June of '03 that was in Grand-Bay Westfield, N.B. What stood out was the backyard plow rig setup on the front bumper and the same broken windshield. I had to dig out pic's from my days before digital to confirm. As I recall the guy had a bunch of manuals, parts, etc. and in the trees out back were the remains of another 151A2 cut in half. I declined at the time on purchasing as I was on the hunt for a '76 Chev 5/4. That didn't work out either. Anyhow, I thought you may like to know a bit more info on your rescued 151. (If this is a repeat of already known info, my apologies). As I looked at the CFR in your signature block I checked on it and it indeed came from Gagetown, but it wasn't a 4 ESR/22 Fd Sqn asset unfortunately. It came from 403 H.O.T. Sqn. with relatively few miles on it. Only 22,000+ miles and sold for $399. I would imagine that was the price for the scrap dealers per each unit of the day maybe? Looking at the data for other units it varies between $0 and $399; the majority being at the later price. May not be accurate though. DND records are not always 100% error free. Another of 403's M151A2's (with M100 trailer) is on display on the base's main drag. It now belongs to the museum. As for the lazy E's, CFR#'s 09800,09849,09850,09851,09852 and 09853 were the only one's listed you may find marked accordingly. There are quite a few missing from the data base if the 935 purchase figure is correct. Checking on my M-37 didn't bring up anything for me unfortunately. Again - great work. Your version is in much better shape than the one I saw that summer! Cheers.

I also noticed that anomaly re the numbers of M151A2s. Going by CFRs there were only about 750, give or take. Yet the data summary gives the number as 935. It is hard to misplace almost 200 Jeeps, especially in a small military like Canada.

Re the sale prices of the M151A2s, I bought my 30 out of Shilo for $110 each. There was a batch of about 20+ in Winnipeg that later sold for $50 each, but I already had enough Mutts by then. In hindsight, I could have taken the tires, batteries, distributors and alternators, headlamps and guages and hauled the rest to the scrappers and still made money off them.

Jim
I no longer have access to the DND database where these numbers are listed. Scotty or some of the others here should be able to fix you up though.

There were many extra jeeps held in Wainwright for use on RVs and general issue to courses or ex's. In the early 90s they were issuing some of the CJ7s for the same purpose; our Padre got one issued but we had so much fun with it he finally had to come asking for it back.

As Rob mentioned, I can have a boo on the MSE Database when I go back to work next week. FWIW, both of the MUTTs I have/had never had the CFR marked anywhere on them. Pulling it off the Database is the probably going to be the easiest.

Do us all a favour and post up some pictures. I'd love to see them, Tan paint or not.

Wow! Thanks for the very informative post. Do I dare ask where you managed to dig up the info regarding the CFRs? That definitely settles its history.

So it appears that neither of MUTTs were Lazy Es I've already shod it with 22 Fd Sqn TAC Signs and Call Signs. Hopefully no one will mind Its our little secret.

I picked up the one you mentioned from Mike M down in New Brunswick near Point Lepreau, although I don't think Mike had it very long, so there is a good chance you met the previous-previous owner. The mileage makes good sense. It had 26062 miles on it when I picked it up from Mike. Unfortunately, the body was BER, but the Power Pack was in excellent condition along with a bunch of other stuff. I ended up using the Body from the 1 Svc Bn MUTT and carried the Power Pack and other components over to it.

Thanks again for all of the information.

Scotty

Will do Jim...

If anymore Un-Cut MUTTs pop up, please let me know. As much as I love this one, it still bugs me that it is rewelded.

Sounds like the ones that were listed through the G503 website. Some were better than others, but all in all a good find. As far as I know most have now sold.

Those are probably the ones that are near Cornwall now. Rob, you and I spoke about them in email. I made an appointment and drove up and had a look/touch with them about a year ago. I think there were 5 sitting there when I looked. Most have a fair bit of rot in the back corners, but are un-cut. There was one that was very good, minimal rust, with some minor damage from being moved with a tractor. Owner also had a shed full of Power Packs and other parts that had come off of them. Politely put, the owner could not settle on a price, and then flatly refused sale by quoting a price both of us knew was in the Stratosphere. From what I understand, his business is about restoring vehicles for other people, and I was looking for a body to put my components in. After spending nearly 5 hours in the car to essentially settle on a deal, I was rather unhappy about the situation. Sadly, fully exposed sitting in a farm field, especially with everything un-bolted from them, exposing bare metal, i'm not sure how long they will last.

It killed me to know that those were sitting there while I tooled away reconnecting this one. At the end of the day, I just couldn't live with myself to dispense what he was asking for the relatively clean body.
