Default austin k2y ambulance drive/ desert

hi i am trying to find out what the one inch square drive was used for, that replaced the air compressor on my brothers 1941 Austin K2Y, its covered in desert sand paint so was fitted ether in north africa or before,
what ever it drove was removed long ago,
i have seen a picture of an film camera ambo in north africa but i cannot find it now,

I reckon that some of the official British auto dealerships such as Lanes Motors , Larke Hoskins and others would have been reluctant to admit that they were selling used disposals vehicles but I guess it was a not to be missed opportunity for a quick profit while they were waiting for the new post-war stocks to arrive from the U.K. They did not widely advertise the used military stuff , instead, they were big on ads like 'order your new post war blah blah'
