Default Wooden Body

Hi Keefy - by "wooden body" I take it you mean a GS body made out of wood. I've informed the restorers that they should lightly sand back the areas where the ARN and Unit Designations should be. In the mean time any information to show its provenance would be appreciated.

Bob

Yes, G.S. No1 (Aust). And yes, good idea to get them to do this. Then it can be looked up in the AWM records although this is unlikely to give you any more than the state where it was originally issued and possibly to whom it was disposed of and a date of disposal.

Default David H Where Are You?

David - any information on this one?

Model WO1
Serial 2842100230M
Engine SP 3779337 - the first 3 could be an 8 as a crease is across the number.

Bob

You can see that each plant used their own sequential series, and they do not relate to any other plant's sequence. I think it was Brisbane plant that did not always use 'B' in the serial. The Perth 'P' vehicles were possibly the rarest.

Default Sydney dates

Taking this one as an example, a Sydney built C15 Wireless Signals I have noticed that these had the date stamped on the plate affixed to the engine cover rather than the data plate on the dash.

And as a question, is it your computer which is adding the commas to the engine numbers? They were not stamped that way.

No, it's me! I have the greatest difficulty in reading six-figure and five-figure numbers. It helps to differentiate the last relevant digits, namely the six-figures. GM of Canada's Walkerville, later from 1935 Windsor, Transmission Plant used a similar numbering system to Flint Motor Plant in 1930, 1929 being a hotch-potch of sequences. After that Flint built so many engines that the sequences differed totally from Walkerville's until 1937 when with the new 216 engines, sequences were re-set again, and then confusion could arise again. Windsor re-set numbers in 1946, by the way.

Try this:

2842100041S [SYDNEY PLANT]
2842100047S [SYDNEY PLANT]
2842100074 ENGINE # SR3836145 [HOLDEN PLANT]
