There were plans for the rifle butt holder in Convoy Magazine, volume 7-1. I don't know if anyone has them available or if that issue is still available from Marc Montgomery. The Convoy plans show a butt socket that is deeper at one end than the other, surviving samples I've seen were the same depth at both ends. I can't tell if this was a change during production for simplicity or a replacement that wasn't built to "official" plan.
CAUTION: I've noticed that the Convoy Magazine drawings have dimension problems. Specifically, the insde dimensions plus the wall thickness stated do not match the outside dimensions given. I don't have data on which dimension is the problem. Last edited by Grant Bowker; 06-03-09 at 16:45. Reason: Feb 17 - Edited for clarity and added information. Mar 6 - Dimension caution added. |

Below are pictures of the holder I have. I've yet to use a router to do a second but that's one of those lesser needed objects!
In any case, the holders are of wood, what type I don't know. The measurements are: Heighth: 1 3/4" Width: 2 7/8" Length: 5 7/8" Inside depths: 1" to 1 7/16" The inside "floor" does slope. Wall thickness: 5/8" Mounting holes are 2 7/8" on center, at least for my F8. They are 1 1/2" on center from each end. Hope this helps! Regards, Jim |

...... those small holders.
Nice job on the truck Mike. Tell us about the tail gate...... did you copy from an old one...?? What gauge..? did you have the sub assemblies bent in a fabrication shop? How expansive was the fabricating shop.....? I am trying to seduce a local shop here to do some small 12 and 14 gauge pieces for me..... set up is about 3 times the price of the steel. did you use mild steel of pickled satin coat...... How bad is your driver's door or is it missing altogether..? Keep trucking...... Boob

I made a tail gate for a 2C4 box .I didn't keep the measurements but I could get them . I had a shop break the iron I needed and cut the rest in my shop with a plasma cutter .You have to almost be there when they do the breaking as some times they can get a little sloppy I would do enough in one chunk for all the peices of the same size and cut what I needed at home .George
