Hi Richard, I am the guy that purchased the recently discussed carrier on ebay below:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem= As you know, this appears to be a good starter but is lacking all armor. I am really glad that you started this thread and I have looked at George's diagrams and others. That will be a great help in trying to restore this little carrier. If you should decide to try to plot this for your water jet and automate the fabrication of the plate I would be very interested. If there is any way that I can help I would be glad. Unfortunately, like many I have no armor to measure or look at. Thanks for any help or feedback you can give as to this carrier or the pursuit of its restoration. Ross |

cheers, i have found a couple of lads in Suffolk / Lincoln who have a number of carriers, they have made patterns out of thinner steel sheet (from the plates of a mk1) the lad has actually built up the tub from scratch the only thing is i wont be able to get my mits near them until April, once i have them they will be plotted into computerised format for CNC / flowjet applications. this should also work on plasma beds / laser beds pending on the software.
that carrier was a great one to start matey but the vendor wanted big bucks just to get her to the port for me so i didnt bid. you need to pull the dash pannel off and see how much of the glacis plate is left underneath. good thing for you is the main bulkhead is still in situ so unlike me you wnt have to cut it out and start again. the drive line on yours was good and the road wheels looked mint, i asked for photo's of the sprockets but the guy was a bit evasive and i never got em, i believe you have 166 links per side left from the 168 so happy days..... a few of the lads on here would love to get their mits on those tracks i bet. if you start a project thread and fill it with millions of pics for us it would be great ! ps welcome to MLU ![]()

I went out yesterday to measure the armour with an imperial gage and found that the armour is abit wider where it is cut and can be very rough making it different size depending where you take the measure .The front armour is alot thicker where the plate is perpendicular to the sides .I will get drawings today of the front . I have a CD of dozsons of detail pictures of of the carrier that would sure help anyone doing a restoration of this kind.George

The sides and back armour is 8 mm
All the front is 11 mm the divider behind the driver is 6 mm the rad cover is 8 mm back and sides with the top plate at 6 mm The bent angle iron to put these peices together is 3 mm the engine covers are 2 mm .This my be not exact but it is close as mine still has the orignal paint on it .If you do a front end you should look at one first as it is a difficult thing to do .On some of my joines they shaved some off to get a fit . George

Certainly, they were made into CAD files I believe.

Hi all,
I am also in the process of constucting all upper armor for my carrier. Most of that work has been done and now moving onto the interior. I need ducting and engine compartment measurements. I have side covers to measure off but don't know the measurement of top plates of housing and of the air ducts. PS anyone has spares of steering bellcranks and linkages would be great too. Picture attached of work so far. Thanks. |
