Default Copied from the CCW Carrier transporter thread,

to keep things on track in this thread:

Dave

I have a list from around 1949 compiled from returns after the war, so many early vehicles must have been disposed of by then: nearly all the first 1800 NZ census numbers are missing.
There is no detail of chassis serials recorded.

The list includes 491 C8AX listed including GS (393), Wireless (50), Ambulance 4Str (31), LP Water (13), LP Disinfector (2) and Compressor (2)
The last 3 are news to me. I want to see a photo of them now!

The LP water cart is described in another memo as 132 gal (the MW Bedford is 200 gal)

Rob”

“Rob,
It was probably some abortion ,using 3 x 44 gal drums.

Good Point Lynn

The maths show 3 x 44 gal = 132 gal

Also 1 gal weighs 10 pound, so 132 gal weighs 1320 lb

8cwt x 112 lb = 896 lb, 15cwt x 112 lb = 1680 lb

Given that the NZ army rated the 8cwt as both 15 cwt and 1 ton post war,
I surmise that the water cart may have retained a GS deck, with 3 drums perhaps plumbed together to a water bar with taps like on the rear of the MW water cart.

Default C8AX front fenders

Hanno,

You have sharp eyes but it is correct. The C8AX does indeed have the wider front fenders of the C15A.

Brian,

Others would say I´m wasting my time, but thanks. . .

So do I understand correctly all C8AX´s were delivered with the wider 15-cwt fenders (so this example is not an exeption to the rule)?

Thanks,
Hanno

Default That's correct Hanno,

The only narrow guards I have seen are modified wide ones which still have original holes.

I believe there is a reference in Wheels and Tracks, either issues 1/2 or a later issue in the 'What's new' column where Ross Hopkins' C8AX was pictured. Bart related that the preliminary parts list C8AX had the C15A part numbers for the front guards.

Back then Bart thought there were only a small number of survivors in NZ, when in fact they are still numerous, and a few ex Solomons campaign C8AX seem to have ended up in Aussie.

Yes , more and more of them are turning up over here ...nearly all of them are found in NSW , indicating a disposal point within that state . Back in the 70's we thought they were rare over here , but not anymore. I guess a few ship loads of them were shipped in ..must have been a bargain deal for the buyer , being sold 'in situ' on the Pacific Islands, made the deal less attractive for many prospective buyers maybe. The NZ Govt. obviously didn't want to be involved in shipping them home and sold the lot 'as is'.

Seems odd that the trucks found here were actually in an active theatre of operations, the Solomons .. but the examples left in NZ didn't see any angry shots fired.

Correct, the C8AX-01 Parts List does show the same part number for the 4 parts of the front fenders/wings/guards as those listed for the C15A and C60L in those parts lists.

The thought occurred to me that the evolving list of serials should also include NZ Army numbers where known, so I have included that in the latest addition.

Any numbers known for vehicles already on the list?
