235 oil filter

Hi all, i have a 235 chev and i'm not sure where the external oil filter is piped to.I have read that only 15% of the oil runs through oil filter at a given time that is why you can't adapt screw on filters.Not sure? any information or better still a photo showing in and out oil galleries would be great.
