Default Bren Gun Mounts

Hi Darron - hopefully the attached images will help. Perhaps you should consider buying my photocopies of Carrier manuals. Details are in For Sale Or Trade.

Default What a.....

useful device. Why the hell didn't the Canadian Design Board think of something like this instead of that stupid rubber strap to hold the Gun down.
?????????
OK Bruce (Parker of course)...tackle this question.

Because our DND at the time (and probably today too) were cheap b@stards. Not to say they didn't charge full price though.

Lynn, not seen the t16 mount used in universal carrier, saying I have seen the Aussi mount in British carriers, seen a photo also of Aussi mount being used in a universal full sided carrier, will try and find it. I have access to one in the UK to copy next week.

Default No photo Harold,

The Bren is held by the front mount pin under the gas cylinder, and by friction at the rear of the mount, where a spring steel piece grips the receiver.

The mount hangs inside the front plate, to the right of the firing slot when not in use, or if a Vickers is fitted.
Rob

Brent
I think the Canadian mount is similar to the small cast mount that you see inside the front plate of a mid production LP2A as shown in Jeff Plowman's first NZ Armour book. There was a 'U' shaped piece of steel bolted inside the firing slot to narrow the opening for the Bren.

I'm not an expert at Photoshop, but this shows the relative position of the mount to the Gun.

We talked about some of these mounts on my restoration thread linked below. Scroll down to the Carrier Candy section on page five and message 150 has measurements of the Bren mount which fits into the cast sockets used with the pogo sticks.

I've seen the curved goose neck type mount in Jordan's photo somewhere else. Will see if I can dig it pics. Seems like it was on very early modified jeeps that the British airborne first had when they were still in the "show off" public relations mode prior to anything being done operational. Circa early 1942.
