Hi Folks,

I think my posts don't quite fit in this thread about the battle of Vimy, as my Viznaugh's were part of the Somme, not Vimy, although Archie IS listed on the Vimy memorial (he was MIA/KIA) and that's why I mentioned things. My grandfather, Joseph Smith CEF CMR (overseas) I have NO idea where he would have been nor how he was wounded. He didn't enlist until March 15, 1917 at age 34. He was a farmer

I've been catching bits on TV about Vimy ... one bit I saw was the insides of the tunnels and heard about how quiet the soldiers had to be as the Germans were in tunnels close by as well and they could hear any noise. How cramped and uncomfortable everyone must have been ... and what horrible conditions all round in WW1, the trenches, the everything
