YES Ryan

They grabbed a Demag half track and a Sd Kf 223 armoured car from Nth Africa .

the remains of the Demag were recovered by a friend in 1983 ? from Kaniva in the Mallee . A farmer there had bought it from Hughes trading just after WW2 , he cut in in half and made a crawler tractor out of it . The hull had mine blast holes in it . We found a few 9mm rounds in the hull , down in the dregs

I had it stored at my place . The vacuum assist change gear box was still in it . A little swastika stamp on it .

Yep, heard that too, I had the same reaction.
What of the 251 Halftrack?
Do you have any pics of the Demag Mike?

No I dont . It was still finished in the blue/grey Wermacht paint scheme , faded of course . Sadly too much of it was missing , the tracks and lower hull were complete , but all of the upper hull section was gone .

It was sold to a chap in South Australia .

We believe this was the vehicle that the engine was salvaged from by Stan Jones for his racing car . My friend did a lot of research and met the old racing car guys who confirmed the theory.

BTW the half track pictured beside the armoured car at Fish. Bend isnt a Demag , its a larger variant .

Hmmm: German 'stuff' that came to Australia during and just post- WW2 (just the larger stuff: the small stuff like small arms is just too numerous to list here!)

Now this list is from memory, so don't cane me if I get it a bit awry:

(1) V1
(2) V2 (x2)
(3) Vidalwagen (x2)
(4) Meilerwagen
(5) Oxygen trailer (for V2)
(6) Bf 109
(7) PzKw III
(8) PzKw I
(9) Demag semi-track (1 ton?): unarmoured
(10) Semi-track, I think 7 ton? Have to look at the images to confirm size
(11) Horsch field car or light armoured car (remains found in Tasmania many years ago)
(12) Me 262
(14) various rocket/missile technology items, the names of which escape me at the moment; HS-293(?) anti-shipping guided missile comes to mind,
(15) various field guns/howitzers/AT guns (105mm, 88mm, squeeze bore weapon, Light RCL for paratroop use, etc etc
(16) various LAA weapons, trailer mounted.
(17) Puma heavy armoured car

There was also an Italian CV33 tankette.

The 'Tiger Tank' is a fairy tale as far as I can tell, but I'd be happy to be PROVED wrong!!

Mentioning Italian gear , the two Fiat SPA artillery trators, one of them is running now , without bodywork . The owner had it displayed at the Warragul old fairs show, with some 1950's era pics of it on a farm in Gippsland , with the body still on it . he bought it form Belfields auction.

I believe one of the Hughes, of Hughes trading Coburg went to Europe just post WW2 and bought some WW2 German gear. The 2 stroke generators that we know of , and a VMVC member bought them there at Hughes in the late 1980's .

A German Panzerjager 1 fur 47 PAK (t) self-propelled anti-tank gun. It was equipped with a 4.7 cm Czech made anti tank gun. The gun has been reconditioned by the Australian Army Ordnance corps, and is on display in Collins Street during a Liberty Loan Rally.
