White 64 on black would designate Tor Scots Unit sign 1st Cdn Army, Jun 1944. White 53 on red would be 2nd Cdn Inf Div, as at Aug 1942 as well as Cdn Army May 1942. (Credit:Barry Beldham). May I assume that Tor Scots, being an MMG Bn would have been, at various times, slotted into 2 Div, as well as being allocated as an Army asset? Fascinating, eh?

Jon is correct, as/at May 1942 - AoS 53 in white on red background for Machine Gun Battalions, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Canadian Divisions. Also, as/at April1940 - MG Battalions were Corps assets and used either 34, 35 or 36 in white on a red background, this was changed to 45, 46 or 47 in white on a red background as/at 28 May 1940. As of 12 December 1940, the Arm of Service marking of 53 in white on red background for the Machine Gun Battalion in Infantry Divisions was adopted. Cheers
