I believe the reason for the failure was that metric rod was used which was smaller in diameter than the original and there was insufficient thread depth.

Was that Rod McPhersons carrier ? I recall something like that happening at Jells park . You arrived with Rods carrier on your chevy LL truck . Would have been around 1980 ? Mike
