Jon is correct, as/at May 1942 - AoS 53 in white on red background for Machine Gun Battalions, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Canadian Divisions. Also, as/at April1940 - MG Battalions were Corps assets and used either 34, 35 or 36 in white on a red background, this was changed to 45, 46 or 47 in white on a red background as/at 28 May 1940. As of 12 December 1940, the Arm of Service marking of 53 in white on red background for the Machine Gun Battalion in Infantry Divisions was adopted.
