Default Ford/chev brought back home

Hi, i am new to this forum, here is a project i brought back home...i have a modest goal to fix whats on it for now, not realy a restoration.

I have few questions...where was the battery located on this ?
Also was there any vin/numbers to indentify them ?
There is only a "S" on the left door.

thanks for any details.

....RH cab running board....

Also was there any vin/numbers to identify them ?

....On a data plate either on the top of the instrument panel (early) or RH door (later). There's some frame stampings you may find also....

There is only a "S" on the left door.

....That implies original factory paint...a bonus!! Measure its shape and location for others PLEASE!! The S was for 'suppressed' meaning the ignition was suppressed for electrical discharge allowing equipment to be operated without interference from the truck's electrical system....

thanks for any details.

Answers above. It's hard to tell, is it a 15cwt, 30cwt or 60cwt? Can we see a picture of the hubs? What is the distance between the axles?

Nice, clean looking truck!!!

Default Vehicle

Congratulations on your CMP and welcome to MLU!

At a guess I'd say you have a F15A there. The battery goes on the step on the driver's side. Usually there were data plates attached to the driver's door with VIN info, but if that is missing I'm not sure where it was stamped on Canadian built trucks, ours here in Australia were usually on the right chassis rail behind the engine mount. The engine number was also used as the VIN. It was stamped on the engine and often on the upper part of the gearbox above the inspection plate.

Also could you please add your real name to your signature? We're a friendly bunch in here.

Default Hi Pat Allen

Hi and welcome to the forum on an american WWII vehicle, the "S" designation is usually for "suppressed" as in set up for radio. it may be the same. It cant be that long since she was a runner with those Michelins on her.

I do believe this is your truck on youtube, from what I've seen in the videos it would appear to be a late 1943 to early 1944 C15.

Default Battery tray

Hi, about battery tray, could there be that the ford cab had the battery behind the passenger seat ?
there is evidence of a braket with heavy corrosion on the top of it.

but since it a chev frame, there is also remains of a braket on the frame...
id like to see/find pictures of what its supposed to look like. :headscratch:

Default Battery position

The gun tractor had the battery in the cab... and that looks like the base for the battery box.

Default Battery Box Base

The base and the holes in floor look like those on a Pattern 12, wonder if this is a carry over from that.

Cheers Phil

Default Ford or Chev?

The chassis, motor, wooden steering wheel all say Chev, but the rad mesh and mirror arms say Ford. If it is a Chev wireless then the 'S' on the door should be a 'W/T'. The checker plate on the floor looks too early for a '44 Chev. Has someone used some Ford body bits on this truck?

here are some other pictures, there are things on this truck that we dont have any clues about.

its a ford cab no doubt. yes its the convoy lamp thats lights on...

there are two brakets on the top rear section of the cab....Antenna base ?

Also on the roof top, there is two holes and tubes and also a braket with a spring...any idea what this could be ?

funny, the truck still had all its original 6v bulbs, 2 mazda prefocus, and 4 Ford GE canada 6-8v miniatures ones.

there is also the remains of a red lens from one of the rear convoy lamp...

Default Mystery....

Remember Pat ..... this is a cab 11 Chev truck with a later Ford cab 13 fitted to it.....

The roof has the round hole(welded over) for the round hatch..... the two small holes are for the rope that hold the canvass cover on that round hole..... the bracket at the back is to attache a rope spring device that keeps the canvass cover from falling away if it is remove fast for aircraft spotting while the truck is driven.

The curved bracket is one of two that holds one of the gas tank in place. It looks like the cab 11 running board brackets are totally missing......

Your welcome to visit the barn again to see what all the right parts look like.... just need to call first to make sure we are around.

Hi Charlie. Have another read of my post. I put a full stop after the word "forum" and a capital "O" to start the word "on"
Hopefully it should be more clear now.
