Hi Peter
My experience with CMPs has been that early Chevy CMPs 1941 and 1942 had rubber peddle covers just line the prewar civilian. While the later 1945 Chev CMPs had cross hatch pattern cast into the brake and clutch peddle units.
Now to supposition, the change over could be for a number of reasons,
- the rubber shortage caused a simple change over not using rubber
- that the rubber pads tend to come off leaving a smooth surface
- that mud on your boots make for feet slipping off the rubber or smooth steel
I've experienced the last two problems myself with my `41 Pattern 12 and '42 Pattern 13. The only way to keep the rubber covers on the steel that I've found is to glue them on.
Change over from looking at parts books took place in 1944, can anybody nail it down better?
Cheers Phil
