As an aside, I wonder why there were so few CMP ambulances, while across the border more than half of all WC series 3/4 ton Dodges were ambulances.

My answer would be they were too cumbursome . Canadians used Jeeps and UC ´s .More agile , faster on broken roads and off road . Most pictures of casualty evacuation show Jeeps and Universal Carriers . on the way back to the front they could bring up troops and ammunition and that’s exactly what they did . Even today , our armed Forces have very few ambulances , they are next to useless on the battlefield . The medics and helicopters do the job .Ambulances are of use in training in country . Plus , those big red crosses are nice aiming points..

I suspect these are the control knobs for the blinkers or even maybe a siren .
