Default Vietnam images

Aussie M113s in Vietnam, pic by Andrew Guest, who served there.

I've just started a page of his unique pictures, some very interesting ones indeed.

Here's the link

And one more pic:

Just uploaded a bunch more of Andrew's pictures to the first page and there's more on the
second page

What's the tank?

Can anyone add anything to the pics by way of information?

Default Viet pics

The first pic is on the ring road past 3rd Cav Regt lines in Nui Dat. Vehicles from the left are International ACCO, Landrover 109, M113A1 apc's and M577A1 acv. The tube in the left foreground is part of the barrel of a M2A2 105mm howitzer, which I presume is being towed by another ACCO which 2nd Lt. Guest may be riding in. The gun sheilds on the APC's date this photo as mid '68 or earlier, after which turrets began to be fitted.
The block building on the sandhill is one of the French Colonial Forts up and down Vung Tau peninsula.

M551 Sheridan tank, an airdroppable light tank. It has an 152mm rifled gun capable of firing HEAT rounds or guided missiles.
The US Army received the Sheridan in 1967. Although it went out of production in 1970, the 82nd Airborne Division still has a number of them in use as the current M1 Abrams tank cannot be parachuted from an aircraft. A couple of hundred are also still in use with the US Army's Opposing Forces Regiment at the National Training Center as "enemy" tanks in combat training.

sorry the M-551 has gone away. the 82nd got rid of them around 1994 in preperation to get the AGS (armored gun system). but that program was killed. right now the 82nd gets a platoon of brads, and abrams on call from the 3rd ID to fill out the airlanding armor role. the only thing the 82nd and 101st airborne have for armor is the uparmored hummers with .50s or MK-19s.

the OPFOR in sunny CA now has new M113-BMPs Vismod M-1a1s, and other vismod vehicles M-548s, hummers, and 5-ton trucks, the M-551s are stacked up like wood 4 and 5 tall in the bone yard. a sad end to a combat vet. but thats nothing new in the us with DANGROUS (no gun) armored vehicles.

These Luvax shocks are very common here for an old part since they were used on a huge variety of stuff at the time.

They are commonly to be seen at shows and rallies, especially the truly massive, annual, Beaulieu Autojumble which would realise more than you could carry, but that has just gone for this year and doesn't help being over here.

Try the Morris Register, they may well have some or point you the right way. http://www.morrisregister.org.uk/menu.htm

There are I think a heap of old British cars there that used these shocks and doubtless someone in the states has them.

How about these people http://www.applehydraulics.com/british.htm in Calverton NY ?

$165 for new ones?

R.
