Default Old Bayonnett

I have a friend who has an old bayonnett and he isn't sure the origine of it.

Brief description:

Approx 15-16 inches from tip to handle end.

Handle approx 4 inches.

Blade lock slot is about 1 1/2 inches long

Has no barrel ring for support.

Has number 283 stamped near the tang

Handle has 7 x 60 deg ribs cut into the handle.

.....as soon as I can get pics I'll post...

Any ideas?

Regards
