Default Atmospherics

A couple of evenings ago we were treated to this spectacular display in the sky. They look rather organic in shape, and indeed this formation is called Mammata for rather obvious reasons.

So I've made a page of these and other atmospherics I've seen recently, like this rolling front which was an awesome sight.

You can see more here.

..."breast like underhangings" is the desription we in the weather business use...one of my favorite clouds for some reason. Also look for crepuscular rays...spectacular.

Default Whew

Keith:
I am glad you posted the link as at first glance I was a bit worried about you.
The first photo looked very similar to an X-Ray I saw of my lungs taken not too long ago which prompted a hell of a lecture from my Doc. The second image, well, "smooth as a babies @@@" would perhaps apply. The full image pics made it all clear.

BTW, is that a Volvo saloon, perhaps a 40 series or 60 series?
Didn't know my former company was flogging passenger cars in OZ. Thought it was only lorries and ag stuff.

No, it's not a Volvo, it's a BA model Ford Falcon, locally designed and built.

We've had Volvos sold here at least since the 60s - we get most of the current range of passenger cars and soft roaders. You still see a number of 244 series here. We even had the awful V6 264.
I owned serval Volvos during the 80s - a 245, 240 and the DAF derived 360 - all reliable if a bit dull. My mother still has a 240.
We have Saabs and Scanias too.

Bad view of a Volvo S60. You can see a certain resemblance.

So, this is the reason why Amateur Radio operators, like myself, can't punch through the horrible propagation layers which are so prevalent right now?

Seems like the E2 and E3 layers aren't bonding and the Fresnel shelf is non existent. Flaring sun spots don't help either.

Generally speaking, we're all getting a lot of mush on the 40, 60, 80m bands. Pretty well unworkable on vox, cw has moderately better success.

Sigh, it's gotta clear up sooner or later...73...de VA3 CIC

Jon, not Don... no, I don't recognize that name.

I try working 40, 60, 80m bands from time to time...but there's no joy recently, solar flux and all that techical mumbo jumbo. Mind you, I'm using a Mk III Northern Electric Wireless Set Number 19...not the most considerate piece of kit...it is, after all, 60 years old!

I do know Chris Baisallion (sp?) and VE3 ORP though.
