Default CMPs for Malaya

I am trying to check whether it is possible that some Chevrolets CMPs were assembled in Liverpool for left-over crates in 1947 and then shipped to Malaya. It does not ring true to me as the official DND papers suggest that some left over were assembled into 1946 by the Ministry of Supply. Is there any evidence of CMPs being shipped back from Canada post-war to the UK and thence to Malaya/Singapore? I can imagine refurbs being sold on but did the Canadian Government sell/supply left-over new trucks to other Commonwealth countries?

Default Malaya and DND lorries

David ,

I am going off on a tangent that isn't answering your question , but, it's all about old green trucks just the same . Cab 11 and 12 DND pattern trucks did make it to Malaya ( with British units ) , before the sons of Nippon decided they liked em so much , they just had to go down there and capture them . There are contemporary pics existing somewhere , of the Japs driving the Fords and Chevs around , with broad smiling faces too . They used to run them on saki , its true .

Mike

Default Interesting

S/M 2005 was originally to be for amongst others, Bombay delivery but was changed. Egypt mostly got 'em. I suspect that these #11 and 12 cabs must have been shipped out from England. Very interesting thought.

Default AWM photos

here is a photo showing AIF units moving up in CMP 11 or 12 cabs to the lines in Malaya and dated in the caption as January 1942.

I also have other photos taken after the war showing Japanese POWs pushing unserviceable CMP 11 or 12 cabs off the streets in either Singapore or Malaya from the same source.

Default Ex-Indian?

I have no evidence yet as I will have to look at my files in detail but I did wonder whether these were assembled in Bombay and then shipped onwards.

David I have other AWM photos showing Ford MCP's being unloaded in Singapore in 1941. So if the AIF brought Fords with them one must assume they also brought their own CMP's with them as well.
