Default Unkown movie with a Ucarrier in it

Hi everyone.

Ive been scratching my head for some time on this one.

I remember about 10-12 years ago or more seeing part of a movie where a soldier in a carrier platoon was chasing after this girl, whom he had affection for, across the English coutry side. She was out for a day of horseback riding and was not aware of the carriers going hell bent after her.

It seems to me that there were a lot of shots of the carriers moving around at speed and climbing up all sorts of embankments. With the scene finally ending when a handful of the carriers suddenly burst from the brush and surpised her so that he could ask her out.

I think the movie was British made and more than likely filmed during the war. Probaly 1941-43.

If anyone can help me out it would me much appreaciated.

Sincerely
Jordan "I don't think Ive made this up?" Baker

Jordan,

I think the film you are refering to is "A Canterbury Tale", shot in 1944, not many miles from where I live. Some of the countryside shots are very familiar to me. There is a short scene of a group of carriers on the Downs, cannot remember anything about the crews stopping to ask the girl out though.

Default thanks

Thanks Richard

I will try an rent a copy from a video store to see if this is the film im talking about.

From descriptions ive found there is one scene where the male lead is out on manuvers with his squad and they run into the female lead. Perhaps this is where the carriers come into play.

I have to say that the scene ive described was my first real introductions to carriers. At such a young age I was so impressed even though I had no idea what they were or who used them and when, but it sure has gotten me hooked.

Thanks and if anyone else has their own ideas let me know as I realy would liek to find this out. Even if the movie sucks big time I still will sit though it to see thos wonderful machines go bouncing around.

Sincerely
Jordan Baker

Jordan,

When I checked the film out on Google search, I found that the one shown in the US had some different footage, I have only seen the British one. As a coincidence, on the local radio today there is a special showing of it in Canterbury today with Sir Richard Attenborough attending, Sylvia Sym, his wife, starred in the film. There is some good shots of Canterbury showing the devastation of the Blitz there.
