Default 1941

Happier times for these blokes, turned to poo later that year.
Visited this ground several times and it was still in partial use in 1997.

Well spotted Mike, thanks for posting. I've seen 8th Div camo before but never in colour.

Expected scheme would be Khaki Green No.3 (Australian production) with disruptive colour Dark Tarmac No.4 (standard British disruptive colour at the time) applied in Malaya.

Default paint

The Dark Tarmac , it appears to be sprayed on because the edges are not well defined . It may be a optical illusion caused by the poor resolution of the film but if it was brush painted there would or should be a sharp well defined edge where the two colours merge. The Emu is well defined .

Is the car a Chevy ? 1941 model.

I agree Mike, definitely spray painted. Edges were supposed to be brush painted, as seen on other examples. This was later stipulated in Jan '42 directive: "All edges are to be kept sharp, it may be necessary to paint the boundary between two colours to obtain sharp definition."

It's possible the whole car was resprayed at the time, eg: AWM 008503. MALAYA, 1941-07. AN ARMY LORRY GETS A COAT OF CAMOUFLAGE.

Definitely Chev but looks like 1940 model to me. I'm no Chev expert though!
