c15a no 12 cab Instruments
Guys,
The restoration continues with some of the more finesse items and I'd like some advice on firstly how to clean and enhance the instruments faces without removing any of the graphics. ie: I'm thinking of using a little baby oil and cotton buds to remove the grime of time, would this work or should I leave alone. And secondary should I consider having the faces fully restored with new paint/graphics is there anyone out there that could perform such a task? I look forward to your advice guys. Thanks Paul

Paul,
I have no experience with this, but would try a corner with some WD-40, Or maybe start with just a brush and soapy water and finish with a coat of wax. If your going the route of re-doing the faces....most Chev parts suppliers offer stickers or waters slide decals to make the faces look like new. They also provide new needles; I have bought new face stickers and needle from the Filling Station in the US. LWDparts also offers NOS gauges if needed, as does Jeepest and JeepVillage in France. Gauge refacing
Hey Paul
I found that Jim Carter Truck parts sells stickers for fixing the face of the gauges, here is a link to the ones you would need for your gauges for the chev. https://oldchevytrucks.com/sp101.html If the link does not work just go to the website and select 1936-1936, then cab parts, you may also be able to look under decals but I have not checked that yet. Check Brian Ashbury.....
He has GMC (not Chevrolet) NOS Stock full instrument clusters.....0000.0 mileage.....all gauges are brand new...... not cheap but you know you are getting an original working cluster.

Thanks guys for your assistance, I've seen the stick on gauge dials but wanted to keep it authentic to the era with the painted faces. I've had a quote to overhaul/refurbish the complete set at £1000 so that isn't going to happen unless I win the lottery!
A little baby oil has worked wonders on the faces whilst retaining the patina and re-plating the metal cages has lifted the years of grime. Fingers crossed the gauges still work (I think I saw them jump into action when we fired her up first time after 40years) but at the time the gauges weren't top of my agenda. I'll post some pictures once I've re-assembled the unit. Cheers, Paul
