Default New CF sniper rifle

So, apparently the Canadian Government is purchasing a new semi auto sniper rifle for the CF, the C20. Price tag, $8.5M for 272 rifles and parts...
I'm no mathematician, but this works out to roughly $31,250 each. Good deal. They're also looking at a new bolt action rifle as well, the C21. Didn't see the tag on that one....

Here is a link to the C20 page at Colt Canada: https://www.coltcanada.com/c20.html

When I was in Afghanistan, the weapons techs were showing me an AR10 they were repairing. It had both a night vision scope in line with an optical scope, and was well used. They were the companion rifle for the bolt action snipers. The weapons techs told me the companion rifles actually were getting more kills than the bolt action.

As to the price, figure it is likely about half that, with the other half being service spares and support.

Rob, Chris ...

Nice rifle. I see that there is to be a competition to decide the C21 bolt action rifle, so not decided what that will be based on yet: https://www.theguardian.pe.ca/news/c...rifles-448930/

What anti-materiel rifle does Canada use, please?

Mike

Canada bought a bunch of 50 cal McMillan on an urgent operational requirement for Afghanistan. They were for sniping purposes more so than anti-material. Those are the C-15 which is scheduled now for refurbishment by Colt. Canada also uses Prairie Gun Works rifles in .338 lapua for sniping, and the old Parker Hale C3A1 snipers are still around for training purposes.

Thanks Rob,

The ranges to about 2500 metres are well covered, then.

Regards

Mike
