Default Tyre carriers

I can think of four types on Aussie CMP's
Clam shell, wooden box, 16" carrier with tool box and 20" with ladder and tool box.

Default Pictures of Australian CMP spare tyre carriers

Hi Colin,

Attached are two photos of two of the four types of spare tyre carriers on Australian CMPs as mentioned by Euan.

The first one is on my F15A. Holds the 16" wheels.
The second photo is for the larger 20" wheels on the bigger trucks.
Note the ladder under the bottom angle iron support on that one.

I believe the upper retainer clamp is missing on that one and looking at the pictures, the 16" tyre carrier has the pivot for the clamp at the junction of the two pieces of bar that makes up the outsides of the carrier, and on the 20" one the pivot is further towards the outside end of the carrier. Obviously to accommodate the larger diameter wheel and tyre.

Hope this helps with your identification.

Cheers,

Don't forget that there are two types of wheel carrier to suit the 20" tyre, with & without the ladder. Early & late.
Mike C wrote a bit about them in relation to CMP Dump trucks.
