Default Toronto War Industry WW2

Just want to know if there's anyone out there who worked at the many plants in Toronto that helped with the war effort ,eg.
GECO , Inglis and other plants.I hear they even built Corvettes for the Navy here.I know they built Lanks and Mossies. Just share your stories with us if you can.

Thanks
Tony

Default Toronto

They built Algerine minesweepers on the Toronto waterfront. Redfern Construction was the contractor. Had at least two going at one time. My mother worked as a welder on board during construction. When they switched over her crew went to
King St. Int'l Harvester to weld POL carriers for 60 cwt bodies. When that ran out it was over to Inglis to grind Bren mags.
We had one of the mags here for years and she always thought the Horsemen would come looking for it.
The book to have is Canada's War at Sea. Published 1944,
written by Stephen Leacock. Has hundreds of wartime ads in the back about local Wartime production.

Tony..
I think that they built Mossies at Mont Jolie ,Quebec...I had a Corporal that worked with me in the early '60's that was an aircraft carpenter tradesman during the war and that is where he was stationed...

Besides, it's March 17th, and even this guid Scot is dressed in green (in this case, Combat Pants), and I'm off to party shortly... so piss off!

Have one for me and you can use this...

There are many good reasons for drinking,
One has just entered my head.
If a man doesn't drink when he's living,
How in the hell can he drink when he's dead?

Or This ...

When we drink, we get drunk.
When we get drunk, we fall asleep.
When we fall asleep, we commit no sin.
When we commit no sin, we go to heaven.
So, let's all get drunk, and go to heaven!

If you want to see pictures of Canadas War Effort go to

http://www.collectionscanada.ca/arch...2011504_e.html

Type in keywords in the searchbox and it will bring up all the relevant photos i.e. "corvette"
The easiest way to see the entire collection of thousands of photos is to type in the year i.e. "1943", "1944" etc or try John Inglis , guns etc.
