Default WTF - A Remembrance Day parade!

Hey Folks..

Here's a sad topic, but I am having a hard time finding a Remembrance Day parade in my county (...and the surronding ones...) to drive my M37 in!

I live near Simcoe, ON, and the Simcoe Legion feels that they don't need a vehicle due to the parade route being so short! Back in Oct, the anual (...usually...) Warriors Parade at the Norfolk County Fair was cancelled because the boob who was organizing it felt that, and I quote, "...having a bunch of frail veterans walking in a parade is a BIG liability issue..." Like that's his decision to make...

So...anyone know of any areas in SW Ontario where a parade is being held that would WANT volunteers?

thanks

Ty

Default slow parade marching

When I came home from the Gulf War, I marched in the Nov 11 parade in my hometown. I fell in with the Veterans, and found myself beside an old fella who had pre WWII service. I kept pace with him despite the accordion opening up in front of us and the cadet band whomped out a 120 paces per minute beat. We held up the whole GD parade! Did I give a shit? Not at all, nor did he.

Default Approaching Legions

Maybe rather than limit your self to having your vehicle in a Remembrance Day parade you could offer to have your vehicle present at Legion events. A bit late now perhaps, but the Poppy Drive is the week prior to November 11.
The Legion might appreciate a vehicle at a certain location to increase public attention to help boost poppy sales.

I also have volunteered vehcles to my Branch for the November 11 parades and it isn't a high priority. Ask the Legion if they will have an entry or Colour party in a local parade at another time and offer to put your vehicle with them. Then offer to give the colour party a ride back to the Branch after the parade. That is a away to start the relatioship on their terms and it might lead to more times they would want your help.

As to frail veterans, think about it, the war has been over for 65 years. That makes the average WW2 vet 85 years old! We loaded WW2 veterans into military vehicles for Warriors Day Parade at London Fair and we took our time and were very carefull.
