Default Scout carrier tear down

Greetings all.

At long last, and after a few trials and coming close to giving up on the project I have finally begun the tear down of the Scout Carrier. It needed the finding of the engine, tracks and the expertise to re-rivet the cut off armour to spur me on. I found myself committing to having it back on it's tracks in primer for the Brookton Old Time Motor Show in two years...

Sandblasting will commence as soon as the hull is stripped out.

I will post some pics when the chance arises but at least the beast is coming apart without too much difficulty, surprising since it sat and rusted in the West Australian outback since 1947.

Still chasing lots of important but smaller items including one headlight (CAV-Bosch), some steering bell-cranks, an instrument panel with or without instruments, a speedometer and two cast brass Bren mounts. Eventually I hope to fit a set of original british pattern roadwheels but for the short term I will stick with the machined down Australian pattern ones which came with the vehicle.

Wish me luck and I will try to get some pics to keep Lynn content for the short term...:0

Cheers

Phill

Default Richard/ Phillip

Richard;I Think phillips original headlight is very similar, but different. If you look at the old pictures you will see that they have a larger rim. by that I mean the rim is wider where it goes out over the glass. The light on Milweb would be correct for an English Universal.
Philip;I will attach a pic of the speedo, ign/light switch, and lastly the instrument panel, that I "THINK", your scout should have had.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the info Richard and Lynn. My headlight has a wide cast alloy rim and is quite discinctive in shape. Will try to post an image in due course.

I received in the mail a CAV swith panel today from Ebay. It is marked CAV type 47A-29 and appears identical to the ones depicted in Lynn's post. If I can get an original or repro instrument panel I can probably scrape up the rest. The speedo will be tricky but I', still looking...

Cheers

Phill
