Major Herbert O. Lambert MC RCIC Lincoln & Welland
My great uncle is Maj. Herbert O. Lambert MC. He was assigned at first to the Lincs in charge of an anti-tank platoon, then eventually as CO of "A" coy Lincoln & Welland. He was awarded the Military Cross for the attack in Bergen Op Zoom. This medal as well as others did not survive the war. What is known is that he may have given it to his coy Sgt., Sgt Charles Kipp, the author of "Because we are Canadians". I would love to locate that medal as none of Lambert's personal effects survived the war.
Maj. Lambert was killed in the Battle of Kapelshe Veer in Holland on 26 Jan. 1945.

Hello Michael,
Welcom to MLU. Good to hear you are digging into the history of your great uncle. I'm afraid I do not have a lot to add. I did google "Kapelsche Veer" and your great uncle's name and came across these pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mfield1119/ I assume these are yours? Regards, Hanno
