Aug 4. 2014, Niagara Region's WW1 Commemoration in Downtown St. Catharines
Monday, August 4th 2014 is the 100th anniversary of the World War 1 Declaration of War. To mark this a Niagara Regional Commemorative Service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 83 Church Street in St Catharines commencing at 1000 hrs.
Please attend this tribute to the 650,000 Canadians and Newfoundlanders who served in the 1914-1918 conflict and in particular, to remember that at least 170,000 of these volunteers were wounded and more than 66,000 lost their lives. In a nation with a 1914 population of less than 8 million this was both an enormous contribution and a tragedy of epic proportions. Not a family in Canada or Newfoundland was left untouched.
If you know any WW2 veterans, please encourage them to attend so we might pay tribute to their service. After all many are the sons of our WW1 soldiers.
The Service will commences at 10:00 a.m. There will be Historic exhibits shown in the air conditioned Church Hall. Organizations or individuals with exhibit materials are welcome to come. Pls send PM.
Heritage Military Vehicles from the Niagara Military Vehicle Association will be displayed on the street. If MLU members can come please pm. We will try for gas money but are not hopeful.
Come! Help us to pay tribute to those Canadian World War 1 soldiers to whom we owe so much. Lest We Forget
