Default tool box's

Trying to determine the approx year, cab model and cargo box combination that these tool box's would have fit .

The welded assembly on the Rh side was installed with a 1B2 cargo box and has cut outs for gas tank spouts, w/spare tire clamps, seems unusual to be mounted with a 1B2 box ? unless the 11 cab long wheel base 15wt 2wd used a tool box, seems unlikely as the 1B2 box is about 12 inch longer than the 2B1 box so there does not seem to be room for this combination.

I am trying to determine if this tool box would be appropriate for a 1941 12 cab 15wt 4x4 with 2B1 cargo box ?

The LH tool box use's bolts for assembly and has no cut out for gas tank filler spouts, it does have the spare tire brackets which are bolted on where as the Rh tool box the brackets are welded.

I have a 1942 13 cab Ford with 10:50 x 16 run flats w/ tool box but this has no provisions for the tire clamps, this tool box is also welded construction, cargo box is a 2C1 steel Budd.

And here's the 1B1 and 1B2 bodies. The 2B series has the tool box and spare tire in front of the box where the 1B series didn't. The tool boxes look to be different sizes.

Neither of the boxes in your picture is correct for a 12 cab 4x4, at this period trucks were fitted with R/F tyres and did not carry a spare.
The boxes in your picture have the 'clam shell' carrier configuration and are therefore 13 cab i.e. early 1942 onwards, well worth saving but not what you want.

Yes I have to agree that neither one is correct for a 12 cab, althought the Rh one could be modifed to look like the original, the LH one looks like the type used on the 2H1 cargo body with 13 cab, and the RH one looks like the type used with the 2J series and 2C series cargo box's for 13 cabs. Will have to keep looking for the correct tool box for the 12 cab.

Default Tool Box

Rob

Nice example of the first pattern tool box as fitted on 11 cabs with 2B1's and very early transition model 12 cabs this type of box is fitted with the 2/3rds width lid with full hinge that lifts laterally. Nice 2B1 as well by the way.

The standard production 12 cab tool box is with full width lid hinged in the centre section so that the two lids lift into the centre.

I have a full set of drawings for the standard type if anyone would like them.

Pete

PS I'll see If I can find some pictures at the weekend

Post 12 cab tool box pictures

As promised some pictures of a mid range 12 cab tool box, this is one that I have fabricated using an original as an exact copy.
Sorry if the photos are a bit dark but not much light in the workshop today (three photos in all)

Pete
