Default Re: Chore Horse

Rolf, on the assumption that you are talking about a "Chore Horse" generator, I have a manual for the 300watt, 12 volt version used by Canada during WWII. Also I believe that Alex Blair of this forum sells copies of same. Nice, very simple and reliable unit. The only trouble that I have ever had with mine was a fuel leak (after I dropped it) ! Talking yepp

it is a Chore Horse

but the one I have is 15 Vols.

The data plate says: Charging set 300 Watt Mk 1
O.M.&M Model CHI-397-3
Serial No. 40467

The one I have needs a little work, but othervise it seems very complete, only missing the panel over the generatorfan.

Default All WW2

These Johnson 300 watt generators are all WW2 Canadian made. If you're lucky, they are original 12-15 volt with WW2 data plates. The more common condition is painted shiny (ik) NATO green, converted to 24V and given a new PU-5008/U designation and data plate (...for the C42 set Skag). Under the (ik) NATO green and you'll find the original brown or, on later production, olive drab paint. Look carefully on the flywheel cover for the triligual 'Canada' decal. These are most likely equiped with a metal cage for ground use; vehicle mounted sets had these removed. Accessories include a small metal tool box (spark plugs, pull ropes, brushes), a goose neck exhaust with a small muffler and a canvas waterproof cover. Most interesting is that I've never seen a seized one, odd given most haven't been run in 20 odd years.
