Cab mystery
These cabs are on a line...I thought that they were post-war but the latest suggestion is that this is around May 1941. The fron appears to me to be a GMC, ex-French order, and the rear one is a CMP..can anyone make out which type? The passenger seat is unsual to my eyes!

Date?
I am still very doubful about the date...that looks post-war to me. If that's a # 13 Cab then June 1941 is too early. In a hi-res version of the photo I can see the padding on the seat with buttons.

What about post-war rebuilds?
The Chevrolet/GMC cab almost looks painted gloss and the cab 13 is very "light" coloured.....lighter than tan/sand if you ask me.....maybe white? If it is a rebuild-line, than I can imagine a non-standard seat or a seat with non standard cushions ended up in the 13 cab.... I would say Post-war. Alex |

Date
It is dated 5th May 1942 it seems. Is that a GMC cab in front? It doesn't have the moulding on the cab doors and cowl that they normally had.

1941/2 Dodge?
That would be very interesting as there is no known info yet on Dodges being assembled there. Post-war they did refurbs we know. Do we have a spare photo to compare please?

I'm with you it's Dodge, note the position of the coil on the bulkhead The issue of the seat may be explained as follows, I think you are looking at the horse hair padded seat back. I have seen this type of pad on late 12 and some 13 cabs. the cris cross pattern is light gauge webbing sewn into the light coloured Hessian cover to give rigidity during use and to prevent the filling from slumping to the bottom. WC 42?
If that's a 1/2 ton Dodge cab then perhaps it's a WC-42 W/T radio van? As to the CMP cab, it could well be an early #13 Cab. Would they have painted it overall sand colour if they used such a light base coat?

Can't be.....
..... does not look like an assembly line but a rebuild line...
some nasty scratches on the first cab.... and what is the black stuff on the fender seam of the cab 13...... Cab are resting on very basic wooden support...... are they being stripped of good parts or actually being rebuilt..??? I checked my 1940 one ton Chevy posting from late December 2005 and January 2006.... entitled.... Here we go again...... ribbing on side of cab looks different than a 1940 Chev.... Interesting picture nonetheless...... all them goodies....I was born too late. Boob

Dodge cab
The first cab is a Dodge cab, I think it is Canadian, the US used a larger voltage reulator, but what type? All Dodge cabs are almost indentical on the front, the front plate which you look at, is even for left and right steering the same.
I think it is right steering, my US 1/2 tonner doesn't have the linkage in the lower middel which I think is for relinking the starter pedal. Hendrik

Thanks Rod and Max. I wish to make a relatively true to type Ford CMP 13 cab model in 1/35 and the details need to be as good as I can make them.
