Carrier Steering Boxes
I was passing a bunch of steering boxes today in the storeroom, and thought it might be interesting to show the differences. If anyone can maybe add a MK 2 Canadian and maybe a T16 would be of interest.
First is the Ross for Canadian Mk1* , then there seems to be 2 different casting styles of the British Bishop box and then a rough looking LP, NZ /Aussie one, I am pretty sure I have a NOS one somewhere, but this one just happened to be on hand , these ones seem to be slightly more stronger built and bigger in the peg on the sector shaft than the Canadian Ross one, and the flange that bolts to the vertical plate is all cast into the main box on these LP ones , so they must have taken the good bits from previous models and improved on when the Aussie's first started developing their own manufacturing of the LP Carriers Cheers Andrew.

The next two are Bishop , but have differences in the casting to the previous one shown, and the LP one, Cheers Andrew.

Ford Canada universal carrier production used the British steering gear for the initial production. When Ford Canada introduced the ROSS steering gear, it was the only one used for the four, “three wheel” universal carriers, as well as both models of the Windsor MK-I* carrier. . . I believe the T16 used the same steering box as the Studebaker Weasel Ron

Didn't the T16 use same one as the Loyd?
Btw. I am looking for a Ross (nos or v.g.) worm (carrier not Jeep) if anyone happens to have a spare? Jokes aside, Thanks for doing this Andrew. It all helps with the knowledge base.

Yes, I had actually realized this when I did the post, and thought about it the next day! , The T16 braked the differential , probably more like the M3 Stuart Tank. The Loyd just braked the shoes on the brake drums , both front and rear
Cheers Andrew.
